Nic Swart, former head of the Law Society of South Africa, said that the purpose of continuing legal education is to ensure the development of learning skills and knowledge needed for legal practice, ensure a high standard of legal services, reduce risk, and strengthen the image of the profession. These are some of the aims of the LPA.
Sections 5(h); 6(1)(a)(xi); 6(5)(f) and (g) and 94(1) of the LPA provide for compulsory post-qualification training and development, practical vocational training courses, and programmes to empower historically disadvantaged legal practitioners and candidate legal practitioners. ClearlawSA is aiming to meet these objectives.
